FEIERABEND - SPOTLIGHT ON BLACK CREATIVITY

Feierabend is PLATTE’s afterwork drop featuring music, drinks, performances, and a continuation of the pop-up exhibition. For this special evening, let's come together and celebrate Black Creatives.

This is a time for community, connections, and fun.

Berlin Based DJ Nika Herero will deliver some tunes for you to dance on, while you enjoy the finest tastes of the Caribbean and West Africa: ANTILLES NY will serve you with delicious Trinidadian doubles -a staple of their street food-, while Shannon will be selling her homemade hibiscus tea, better known as bissap. Come early and don’t miss your chance to try them.

At 19:30, Maia Joseph @souldancer.mj, a Caribbean-Canadian born dance artist will perform her piece “The Other”, and show us how one's voice does not have to be loud in order to be heard. There is power in choosing when to speak and knowing when to stay silent. However, not everyone has the luxury of this choice. The "Other" personifies the different cultural, political, racial and genetic factors, which mute the voices of some, while allowing others to speak volumes.
This concept is timeless as people continue to fight for their lives to be heard. It is often the ones who are trying their hardest to join the conversation that face the most silencing. This imbalance in power, in addition to her own experiences are what inspired the foundation of this work.
In her solo, Maia Joseph seeks to overcome the repercussions from internalizing the voices of many, while struggling to listen to her own.

During the whole evening, you will also get to sparkle up your teeth with tooth gems by Olive.
